December launch for Madhyamik shiksha abhiyan in Kodagu

Madikeri: Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), aimed at expanding and improving the standards of secondary education, involving classes IX and X in the current year, will be introduced in Kodagu in December, according to information gathered from the Department of Education here.

The department has forwarded a proposal, involving Rs. 13.24 crore to be spent under the RMSA, to the State Government, which, in turn, has forwarded it to the Union Government seeking funds, a source in the Department has said.

The RMSA is expected to take secondary education to every nook and corner of the district.

Earlier, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan was taken up by the Centre to popularise elementary education. Consequently, a need was felt for strengthening secondary education infrastructure in the country, the source said.

The programme aims to “universalise secondary education”. It would also ensure that no child was deprived of secondary education owing to gender bias, socio-economic conditions, disability and other barriers.

The vision is to make available quality secondary education, accessible and affordable to all in the age group of 14 to 16. The goal is expected to be achieved by 2017.
