Heavy rainfall in Madikeri

Madikeri: Madikeri and surrounding areas received good rainfall on Monday and there were signs of monsoon picking up in the district in the next few days. The city received moderate to heavy rainfall on Monday.

Tough time

People scampered for cover in the sudden downpour. Pedestrians had a tough time negotiating a broken footpath near the private bus-stand.

The lower portion of the footpath had caved in several days ago, but the City Municipal Council authorities appear to have turned a blind eye to it.


Kodagu district received 929.78 mm rainfall from January till July 25 this year compared to 1,700.29 mm in the corresponding period last year. Madikeri taluk received 1,336.22 mm rainfall from January to July 25 this year as against last year’s 2,246.01 mm during the same period. Virajpet taluk recorded 825.01 mm (1709.49 mm last year) while Somwarpet taluk recorded 628.49 mm (1145.28 mm) rainfall.
