Joshna Chinappa felicitated

Madikeri Jan.8th: Renowned squash player Joshna Chinappa, on Friday, exhorted students here to keep up a strong performance in academics on which they should build a strong foundation for a better future.

She was replying to felicitation by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan-Kodagu Vidyalaya (BVB-KV).

Joshna said at the same time, students should pursue sports and games activities to keep themselves fit. Hard work and discipline would help them to scale greater heights, Ms. Chinappa said.

Earlier, governing council chairman B.K. Subiah, who felicitated Ms. Chinappa by presenting a silver salver to her, saluted the team of her family members who stood by her success. Leela, grandmother of Chinappa, and her mother were present. Sports ran in the blood of the family as her father Anjan Chinappa and her brother Gaurav Chinappa were squash and badminton players respectively.

Ms. Leela was a reputable tennis player of yesteryear, Mr. Subiah recalled.

Interacting with students later, Ms. Chinappa said she wanted to play squash for some more years and, probably, settle down as a coach to develop the game. She looked forward to comeback to Kodagu to develop the game since it was from here she had received the first sponsorship to play professional squash. She took up the game when she was 8, thanks to her father Anjan Chinappa. Eating in moderation, good exercise and sleep, and avoiding junk food were her secrets of success.

Vice-Chairman of BVB-KV K.P. Uthappa, executive vice-chairman M.B. Belliappa, sports committee chairman C.V. Shankar, correspondent C.B. Devaiah, and principal E. Seenivasan were present.
