Kodagu Zilla Panchayat term to end on January 26

Administrative officer would be appointed till new chiefs are elected

The regional commissioner will take charge as the administrative officer of the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat as the term of the elected body will end on January 26. The administrative officer will be the in-charge till the elections are held to the posts of President and Vice-President.

Rural Development and Panchayatiraj Department Under Secretary Swarnalatha M Bhandare has directed that the Deputy Commissioner should appoint an officer of the assistant commissioner’s rank or equivalent as the administrative officers for taluk panchayats.

The reservation for the posts of president and vice-president has already been announced. Accordingly, the post of president in Kodagu zilla panchayat is for general category and the deputy’s post has been reserved for Scheduled Caste woman. The administrative officer will announce the election date after January 26.

Anitha Kanjithanda, who is the In-charge President will have to vacate the post on January 26. The administrative officers will be the chief of the zilla panchayat till the elections for the chiefs’ posts were conducted. The term of Madikeri taluk panchayat ends on January 23, Virajpet taluk on January 24 and Somwarpet on January 27. The five years’ term of the zilla panchayat and taluk panchayats begins from the day when the first meeting was conducted as per rules. Meetings can be conducted in zilla panchayat and taluk panchayats till the new body was installed. However, the meet can only hold discussions on issues and it will have no power to approve development action plans.

The BJP has the strength of 21 members out of 29 seats in the zilla panchayat. According to sources, Shantheyanda Ravikushalappa will be a probable candidate for the post of President. Meanwhile, members Ballaranda Mani Uthappa and Bharathi too are the aspirants for the post of president. Meanwhile, Indiramma of Hebbale constituency and Kaveri of Ammathi are the aspirants for the post of vice-president.



Prohibitory Order on 22nd in Madikeri

Prohibitory 144 sections will be imposed at Madikeri town on 22nd morning 7 A.M. to evening 5 P.M.

The fresh date for election was announced for CMC president and vice president elections by the election officer and the assistant commissioner Dr. M.R.Ravi recently. As a precautionary measure the assistant commissioner imposed prohibitory orders on that day. The election will be held according to the legal norms and there will not be any meeting, gathering and processions on that day, the order clearly instructs.
