Madikeri: The issue of according revenue village status to residents of Attur and Yadavanadu in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu and title deeds to residents can be expedited as the matter has come up before the Petition Committee of the Legislature.

Residents, most of whom are evacuees of the Harangi reservoir project, had been languishing for 35 years.

“We will grant them title deeds soon as also revenue village status,” M.P. Appachu Ranjan and Chairman of the Petition Committee and Madikeri MLA, told The Hindu.

The issue came up before the committee three months ago, he said.

He said survey of the Yadavanadu area had concluded.

To a question on the encroachment of lands by “outsiders”, he said it would be addressed adequately.

More than 950 acres of land in Yadavandu area and 3,000 acres of land in Attur, both forest fringes, were de-reserved for the rehabilitation of the evacuees of the Harangi reservoir project in Kodagu since the early 1970s. The Petition Committee had put the onus on the Kodagu district administration to get the lands surveyed and report submitted to it by April.

Assistant Commissioner M.R. Ravi, who has taken charge, said 1,068 acres of land was available in the Yadavanadu area whose survey had been completed.

In the case of Attur, the survey had been going on, he said. He expressed apprehension that although 3,000 acres of land had been de-reserved.
