Award for centre for rehabilitation – SWASTHA

SWASTHA, a rehabilitation centre located near Sunticoppa in Kodagu district for children with disabilities, has been awarded the “best institution award” for 2009 by the government, projects head of the institution, Ganga Changappa, announced here on Monday.

The award was presented in Bangalore to the institution by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. SWASTHA has two units — functional and vocational. As many as 120 children with disabilities such as physically challenged, autistic, mentally retarded, visual and hearing impaired, were accommodated in the institution.

Ms. Changappa said that a survey would be conducted to assess the number of people with disabilities in the district.
