Elephant receives 4 gun shots

The forest officials yesterday treated a wild elephant receiving gun shot from unknown persons.

A frenzied tusker with two huge ivories was rampaging the estates around Siddapur since three days creating tension. People noticed the restless tusker suffering pain in between. There was wound and swelling near genitals and a leg.

Yesterday the tusker had become very weak and was rubbing the wound against trees.

Forest department had kept a watch after receiving complaints. As the pachyderm rested on the ground, the department doctors administered medicine. The doctors noticed about four gunshots in the body. Some were old and the wounds were souring.

As it was co operating, the officers said that the tusker would be shifted to Dubare elephant camp with the help of tamed elephants. Range Forest officer Monnappa and doctor Srinivas were present.
